No Party

The update on injury is neither hopeful nor disastrous. Surgery won’t be required, yet, but there’s also no update on when this “therapy” is going to enable him to hit back. In fact, there’s no vague timeline either. He might be back against Livorno — which, to be honest, will be nothing but bad karma for him. Or he might take another month to walk back onto the field. At which point, he is in all probability going to score 5 goals in 3 games, assist 3 others, make the papers a few bucks by providing fuel to La Nazionale return stories and then collapse again for a month.
Whatever anyone says — or whatever his club form says for that matter — he can not play any more games than he does for the club. He couldn’t do so in the Golden Boot form, having him do it in 09 will simply be asking too much from a 33 year old. At least for the Azzurri, Party’s over:

Ladies and gentlemen, the definition of epic fail:
“From Totti too. That’s my opinion. Shoo! He is ruining you! He is ruining you! Just like Real Madrid need to do with Raul, Roma need to get rid of Totti. Is that clear?” — Nicola Irti
Obviously the guy [...]

Cementing the legend status in Calcio history
By: Kamran |Gabriel Batistuta, Roberto Baggio, Gunner Nordahl, ring any bells? Yes, these are some of the most prolific strikers in history of Serie A. Comeback #1976

If he had been absent from yesterday’s Bologna equation, the 4th spot would already have been a good-bye, it’s as simple as that. Highlights can be found on Chris’ post-match writeup, along with the golden words: “There is simply no greater difference maker in all of [...]

The Catch-22
By: Kamran |
The same old: If he plays, there’s a whopping 5% chance he’ll go through the match uninjured; if he doesn’t there’s an equally colossal probability for Roma snatching the three points. Mirko’s out for the game, with Baptista and Menez capable of converting chances almost as [...]

The Totti Effect

Roma’s form: D*WW*W*W*
[*] Denotes matches with Jesus on the score-sheet.
It isn’t just co-incidence. Surely, the men of the match against Fiorentina included Doni, Mexes and Juan too. But this has been evident over the entire past decade: Totti takes Roma to a whole another level, period. [...]

Back to spoon-feeding the keepers

“Spoon feeding in the long run teaches us nothing but the shape of the spoon.” — E. M. Forster
There are few sights in the world more joyful than seeing Er Pupone exploit goalie’s decision-making abilities with a Cucchiaio. Sure, Amantino did it last season too, with a [...]
